RECYCLED MATERIALS ANIMAL MODELS
(Toys)
Subject: Humans and the world of work
Cross-curricular links: English language, Humans and their world
Time: 45 minutes
Materials: waste materials, glue, adhesive tape, marker
- Collect (you may gather the material together with students) sufficient amount of waste material, so that each student can make an animal.
- Explain what you want to do with it: “We are going to make an animal using these things.”
- How children may make the animal is entirely up to their imagination; they may give it a name. You may play with words or syllables, e.g. if they make something between a giraffe and an elephant, you may call it GIRAPHANT (combination of syllables from giraffe and elephant).
Extension Activity:
The remaining waste may be separated into previously prepared boxes (containers) of different colours, i.e. yellow; green; blue; and red. This may take a form of a competition between teams; each team gets the same number of waste items, each member has to take a piece into the right box. The student who gets rid of all the waste first is the winner.
