(Toys)
Subject: Mathematics
Cross-curricular links: English language, Humans and their world
Target language: ball, car, doll, plane, robot, teddy bear
Language structures: How many + podst.j. v mn. čísle
Time: 10 minutes
Materials: worksheet, crayons, pencil
- Divide the children into groups.
- Put an enlarged copy of the handout on the board (or the pictures of the toys can be drawn in chalk on the board; or stick the copies of the flashcards on the board). The number of the handouts corresponds with the number of the groups.
- Mark a spot on the floor where the children will run to the board from: “Start from here“.
- One child from each group will run to the blackboard, colour the correct number of toys in 1 row: “Run to the board and colour the correct number of the (cars).“ Then he/she will go back to her/his group, go to the back of the line and the child at the front will run to the board. The children take turns until the toys in all rows are coloured.
- The group that completes all the pictures first is the winner.
- When the game’s finished, the children count the coloured pictures of toys and name the toys and colours: “What is it? How many (cars) have you coloured? What colour are the (cars)?“
Variation:
All the children sit at their desks and each has their own handout. The exercise corresponds with the activity above.
