(Family)
Subject: Humans and their world
Cross-curricular links: English language, Humans and the world of work
Target language: brother, cat, dad, dog, grandma, grandad, mum, sister, in the bathroom/bedroom/children’s bedroom/garden/kitchen/living room, on the tree
Time: 10-15 minutes
Materials: worksheet, scissors, glue
- Each student gets a copy of the worksheet.
- Ask the children to cut the family members out of the worksheet: “Please cut out the family – mum, dad, brother and sister; grandma, granddad; the dog, the cat.”
- When they have the pictures cut out, start giving them instructions concerning who is where in the house. Based on your instructions, the children glue the person or animal in the place given: “Mum is in the kitchen. Dad is in the garden. Brother is in the children’s room. Sister is in the bathroom. Grandma is the bedroom. Grandad is in the living room. The dog is in the garden. The cat is in the tree.”
- Check accurate picture placement with the whole class.
- You may then ask the children to describe the picture (each student says a sentence).
