MAGGIE’S FAMILY ROLEPLAY
(Family)
Subject: Humans and their world, dramatická výchova
Cross-curricular links: English language
Target language: Maggie, Mum, Dad, brother Martin, sister Martha
Time: 15 minutes
Materials: sets of the pictures of Maggie’s family members
- Select 5 children to help you re-tell the story for the class. Line the children up and say “ok, you are Maggie, you are Maggie’s Mum” etc. You could re-use the finger puppets made in the previous Extension Activity so the children remember which character they are.
- Ask Maggie to fly around the room and say “Look, Maggie’s flying. Fly Maggie, fly”.
- Stop the child in front of the class while you say “Oh, She’s stopped and is trying to pull on something”.
- Help the child (Maggie) to pretend they are pulling something out of your hand and say “No, she needs help”.
- Ask the children to name the family member Maggie calls for first. Say “Who can help?” Try to elicit sister or sister Martha from the children.
- Call for Maggie’s sister as a class repeating “sister, sister help me please”, or just the word sister if the children are not ready for the fuller sentence.
- Gesture for the child playing Maggie’s Sister to come and help. Then repeat the above two stages for all the other family members.
- When all the family members are pulling, release the object and say “well done you did it as a family. Hurray!”
