CHANGING COLOURS (DVD)

Subject: Humans and their world
Cross-curricular links: English language, Art
Target language: black, blue, green, pink, red, white, yellow
Language structures: What colour is it?; It’s (color); It’s a (color) (...).
Time: 10 minutes
Materials: DVD player

  • First play the whole clip without pauses.
  • Play the clip for a second time and pause the DVD before the first colour appears on the screen. Ask the children: “Is Steve happy? Yes or no? Is Steve sad? Yes or no?“ (Use facial gestures to show the meaning of the words sad and happy).
  • Then pause the DVD at each colour and allow time for further practice of the colour words before or after you encourage the children to say with Steve.
  • Pause the DVD just as Maggie appears and ask “Who is this? What’s her name?”
  • Pause the DVD when all the colours are visible and chorally drill them while a volunteer points to the corresponding colour on the screen.
