Subject: Humans and their world
Cross-curricular links: English language, Art
Target language: blue, green, orange, pink, purple, red, yellow; rainbow
Language structures: What colour is it?; It’s (color); It’s a (color) (...).
Time: 15 minutes
Materials: crayons, paper, handout, glass of water, sunlight
- Gather the children at one table and tell them you will do magic: "Come here, please.” “I’ll show you some magic.”
- Take a glass of water and place it on a sunny spot on the table, with a white sheet of paper under it. A rainbow will appear on the paper.
- Ask them what they see: “What can you see?”, “What is it?” before modelling: “Yes, it’s a rainbow.” “What colours can you see?” elicit the colour that the children can see prompting with the first phonic if necessary.
- While the children name the colours of a rainbow, you make a picture of it either on the blackboard or on the paper. Give the children the rainbow handout and ask them to try to colour it correctly: “Please colour the rainbow“.
