MAGGIE’S REMOTE CONTROL (DVD)
(Verbs and Prepositions of Place)
Subject: Humans and their world
Cross-curricular links: English language, Physical education
Target language: jump, swim, hop, dance, run
Time: 5-10 minutes
Materials: DVD player
- First show the whole clip without pauses.
- Play the clip again and each time Maggie makes Steve do something, encourage the children to repeat the verb as Steve does. For example. Say “Let’s say with Steve, jump, jump, jump.”
- Add more pauses after Steve takes the magic remote control from Maggie and speaks to the children. Repeat what they should do and help them play along.
Extension Activity:
Play Frozen Statues by asking the children to jump/swim/fly etc around the classroom while you play some music. Ask the children to “stop” at the same time as you pause the music. The child that stops first and stands like a frozen statue, is the winner and becomes the teacher. They then instruct the class how to move and take control of the CD player.
