NUMBER RUN
(Mathematics)
Subject: Mathematics
Cross-curricular links: English language, Physical education
Target language: Numbers 0 - 10
Time: 10 minutes
Materials: numbers 1 to 10 written on card
- Set out 10 chairs in a line each facing the opposite direction from the preceding chair.
- Number each chair.
- To set an example, ask “What is 2 + 3?” Demonstrate to the children that they then have to race to sit on the chair with the number 5 and shout out the solution.
- The first pupil to sit on the correct chair wins a point.
- For large classes, split the children into several teams and invite one child from each team to compete against each other.
Variation:
Place a copy of the job (or any other lexical set) flashcards on the board next to a number and a corresponding flashcard on each chair. Repeat above, only this time the children must work out the sum, match the correct number with a picture and then race to sit on the chair that matches the job.
