Target language: circle, rectangle, square, triangle; colours
Time: 10 minutes
Materials: eometric shapes cut-out from paper, a selection of crayons
- Distribute the pre cut-out white paper shapes to the children. Note; you could cut out the shapes with the children during an activity lesson if time permits. Make sure each child has a full set.
- Help the children to colour them according to your instructions, say “Colour the circle yellow, please“.
- When the children finish colouring ask them to show you their work “Show me a yellow circle, show me a blue square“ etc. If the children need a little help show them your coloured shapes at the same time. The pupils say in chorus “It’s a yellow circle“.
Classroom language:
Colour the circle yellow.
Colour the triangle red.
Colour the square blue.
Colour the rectangle green.
Show me a (yellow) (circle).
Extension Activity:
Give out a blank piece of paper and ask the children to arrange their coloured shapes on the paper to make a picture. With the pictures are complete stick the shapes down and display.
