NUMBER PICTURE
(Clothes)
Subject: Mathematics
Cross-curricular links: English language
Target language: numbers
Time: 10 minutes
Materials: worksheet with a number field
- First draw a picture in the number field in such a way that you connect the numbers (see the samples below).
- Take the children through one example picture where you gradually dictate numbers which need to be connected with a line. As you continue show the children that a picture is emerging. “Connect number (8) and number (14).“
- Give each child a handout and ask them to find the first number you say and from which they start to draw “Find number (8), please“.
- When the children finish the picture, ask them “What is it?“ and elicit the correct response.
- Let the children colour the picture with their favourite colour “Colour the picture in your favourite colour.“ and ask them what colour it is.
Variation:
Give the children another simple grid and a matching scale picture of an object previously taught. Ask the children to place their picture anywhere on the grid but to make sure they can still see the numbers. Choose one child to read out the numbers that make up their picture while the class repeats the exercise above. Once they have finished ask the class to chorally name the object.
