JOB JIGSAW
(Jobs)
Subject: Humans and their world
Cross-curricular links: English language, Humans and the world of work
Target language: chef, firefighter, office worker, pilot, police officer, teacher aj.
Language structures: I want to be a/an (job).
Time: 15 minutes
Materials: jigsaw flashcards
- Use a fresh copy of prepared jigsaw flashcards.
- Mix all the pieces of all the cards in a bag then, at random, ask each child to pull out one piece.
- Instruct the children to move around the room and look for someone who has a piece of the same flashcard. The best way to do this is to demonstrate it. You can say “I have a piece of a firefighter, who’s got another piece?“ then look at what the children have until you find someone else with a piece of the firefighter flashcard. Show the children how they match and then say “But we need more pieces“ and repeat the above.
- Allow the children to find other children with a piece of the same flashcard before modelling what the children have made and drilling the vocabulary.
