(Jobs)
Subject: Humans and their world
Cross-curricular links: English language, Mathematics, Art, Humans and the world of work
Target language: chef, firefighter, office worker, pilot, police officer, teacher
Language structures: How many (pilots) are there in the picture?
Time: 10-15 minutes
Materials: worksheet, pencil
- Give the children the handout and run through what they have to do.
- In the first exercise the children need to count how many pilots, firefighters, etc are in the picture and write the numbers into the correct boxes. Lead the children through the handout and help them by asking “How many (pilots) are there in the picture? Count and write the correct number in the correct box.“
- Give the children the Handout.
- Check the answers as a class.
- In the second exercise demonstrate that the children are required to draw happy or sad faces on the correct bodies. In an example, show the children that if you say in an altered voice “I want to be (a doctor)” they draw a smiley face on the doctor and if you say “I don’t want to be (an office worker)” then they draw a sad face on the office worker.
- Change between the characters wanting and not wanting to do their job for all the characters while walking among the children and helping and praising them as necessary.
