PICTURE HALVES
(Jobs)
Subject: Humans and their world
Cross-curricular links: English language, Humans and the world of work
Time: 15 minutes
Materials: worksheet
- Cut as many pictures in half as there are students in the class. All the pictures should depict jobs that students can already name. However you can include new jobs as well and use this activity as an introduction of new vocabulary.
- Shuffle the pictures and turn them face down on the table/floor.
- Students form groups. The first student in a group turns a card over and names the picture in English. The teacher asks: “What is it?” If the student recognises the picture and names it correctly, his/her group gains a point and keeps the half of the picture. If he/she makes a mistake, a student from the other group takes a turn.
- Once all the halves of the pictures are named, the teacher counts the points. The group with the highest number of points wins.
- Eventually, students try to put the two halves of each picture together, i.e. they look for a classmate with the other half of their picture: “Have you got got a/an ...?”
Note:
The activity can be adapted to practise any vocabulary.
