ABRACADABRA (HARRY POTTER)
(Animals)
Subject: Humans and their world
Cross-curricular links: English language
Target language: libovolná zvířata
Time: 10 minutes
Materials: magic wand/magician’s hat, or picture cards
- Show the children how to imitate different animals (e.g. for a rabbit - use your hands as ears and hop up and down, for a dog – use one arm to wag your tail, and so on).
- Put on the magician’s hat, take the wand in your hand and explain to the children that you are wizards and witches and you will change everyone into an animal: “Now I’m a witch/wizard and I can change you into…(rabbits).“
- Say: “Abracadabra! Listen to me! You are (rabbits)! One, two, three.“
- Close your eyes whilst counting. During this time the children must “change“ into the chosen animal.
- Open your eyes and compliment the children: “Fantastic! What lovely (rabbits)!“
- Vary the spells and gradually increase the speed.
- Finally, if they are advanced enough the children can take on the role of the witch/wizard themselves.
