STEPPING STONES (Classroom Game)
(Colours)
Subject: Humans and their world
Cross-curricular links: English language, Art
Target language: blue, green, orange, pink, purple, red, yellow aj.
Time: 10 minutes
Materials: coloured card, bluetac
- Make some stepping stones from coloured card and use bluetac to stick them to the floor. You might wish to do this activity in the gym to make the most of the space.
- Show the children that they will try to cross the river by using the stones in the correct order.
- Line the children up next to the first stepping stone but where they can all see the ’river’.
- Give the ’code’ to all the children, i.e. “To cross the river, remember these colours. Red, yellow, red, yellow”.
- One by one the children cross the river stepping on the right coloured stones in the right order. If they make a mistake you can pretend to be a shark or crocodile and eat them! The children that are eaten then sit out of the game for one round.
Alternative:
Set the class a challenge, to get all members across the river in a certain time. Anyone still in the river after the time has passed will be eaten! Shorten the time limit for each round.
